Job Description Summary for the UN Women Join UN Women Position

UN Women actively pursues gender equality as outlined in the UN Charter. To achieve this goal, the organization focuses on eliminating discrimination against women and girls. Additionally, it empowers women and fosters equality across various sectors, such as development, human rights, humanitarian action, and peace and security.

Mobilizing Partnerships for Gender Equality

Building on this commitment, UN Women mobilizes partners and increases investments for gender equality through the Generation Equality initiative. Notably, this initiative drives the implementation of the Beijing Platform for Action while also advancing the Sustainable Development Goals. At the same time, it enhances support for gender equality by engaging civil society and youth leadership, ensuring that diverse voices contribute meaningfully to the movement.

The WPS-HA Compact

In July 2021, UN Women launched the Compact on Women, Peace and Security and Humanitarian Action (WPS-HA Compact). This initiative aims for transformative progress over five years by addressing challenges related to women’s leadership and protection in crisis situations. Specifically, the Compact serves as a collaborative platform that unites Member States, UN entities, regional organizations, the private sector, and civil society to take coordinated action on WPS-HA. Furthermore, it promotes accountability, strengthens coordination, and encourages financing for the agenda, ensuring that all stakeholders align their efforts effectively.

Key Thematic Areas of Focus

The Compact focuses on five key thematic areas that position women at the center of peace, security, and humanitarian processes. By prioritizing these themes, UN Women directly addresses critical issues and drives meaningful change. Ultimately, this comprehensive approach seeks to foster a more equitable world where women’s contributions are recognized and valued.

  1. Financing for the Women, Peace, and Security agenda and gender equality in humanitarian programming.
  2. Women’s meaningful participation in peace processes.
  3. Women’s economic security, including access to resources and essential services.
  4. Women’s leadership and agency across peace, security, and humanitarian sectors.
  5. Protection of women in conflict and crisis contexts, particularly women human rights defenders.

Current Status of the Compact


As of August 2024, the Compact has registered over 218 signatories. These signatories actively implement more than 1,200 actions across 156 countries. In this context, UN Women is responsible for reporting on the progress of these actions and the investments made by signatories. Furthermore, UN Women engages in communications, advocacy, awareness-raising, and research related to the Compact, ensuring that stakeholders remain informed and engaged.

Development of the UN Women 2.0 Business Model

Building on this foundation, UN Women is developing the UN Women 2.0 business model as part of its transformation initiative. Notably, this model will enable UN Women to scale up its programmatic focus and interventions. Notably, the WPS-HA Compact Framework seeks to achieve impactful results within five years, with 2022 marking the first year of implementation for its actions.

The Compact Monitoring Framework includes several key elements:

  • Annual reporting on progress toward aspirational impact.
  • Assessment of how transformative principles guide the Compact’s results.
  • Data collection and presentation that showcase the Compact’s achievements annually and in real-time.
  • Mid-term and final evaluations to assess effectiveness.

  • Lead data collection for the annual Accountability Report.

Recruitment Qualifications

Education and Certification:

  • A Master’s degree (or equivalent) in development-related fields, gender, economics, statistics, finance, public administration, or a related discipline is required.
  • Alternatively, a first-level university degree plus two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of an advanced degree.

Experience:

  • At least 5 years of experience in coordinating, designing, and implementing complex monitoring frameworks for UN Women, including evaluations and managing programs with extensive qualitative and quantitative data in crisis-affected countries.
  • Experience in implementing complex monitoring systems with diverse stakeholders relevant to UN Women is required.
  • Proven ability to adopt innovative approaches to highlight the impact of monitoring systems in line with UN Women’s mission.
  • Experience in gender equality and human rights responsive evaluations, utilizing participatory and inclusive methods consistent with UN Women’s approach.
  • Proficiency in MS Office 365, including Power BI, Power Platforms, or similar data management software is required.
  • Previous experience within the United Nations, particularly with UN Women, is desirable.

Languages:

  • Fluency in English is required.
  • Knowledge of another UN official language (French, Arabic, Chinese, Russian, or Spanish) is desirable.
