Overview of the Junior Economist Position at ECCC
Role: Junior Economist/Analyst
Departments: Economic Analysis Directorate (EAD) & Strategic Policy Directorate (SPD)
Work Setting: Hybrid (based in Gatineau, Quebec)
Term: May 8 – August 28, 2025 (flexible start and end dates; extensions may be available)
Schedule: Full-time, 37.5 hours per week (Monday to Friday)
Key Responsibilities
As a Junior Economist/Analyst, you will:
- Conduct research on climate change, sustainable finance, and biodiversity conservation.
- Create tools for forecasting energy use and emissions, and for valuing environmental resources.
- Prepare strategic and economic analyses, reports, and briefing materials.
- Assist with departmental initiatives, including academic research networks and expert speaker series.
Desired Qualifications for the Junior Economist Position at ECCC
Applicants should demonstrate:
- Academic Background: Complete graduate studies in economics or related fields, with a solid foundation in economic theory.
- Technical Skills: Show proficiency in Microsoft Office and experience with software/tools such as R, Stata, Python, or Power BI.
- Analytical Skills: Conduct cost-benefit analysis, perform statistical analysis, and evaluate environmental policy effectively.
