The Global Resilience Partnership (GRP), in collaboration with Shockwave Foundation and Munich Re Foundation, invites East African Agricultural Innovators to apply for the Resilient Agriculture Innovations for Nature (RAIN) Challenge.

The RAIN Challenge is back for its third iteration, inviting applicants to transform innovative agricultural ideas into sustainable business models that attract private investment in East Africa. Innovators are encouraged to submit proposals aimed at enhancing resilience in local communities.

Objectives of the RAIN Challenge

The RAIN Challenge serves as a vital platform for Innovators to showcase solutions that tackle pressing challenges in their communities. The focus is on developing nature-positive innovations that drive investment in ecosystems while increasing resilience to climate shocks.

Funding and Support for East African Agricultural Innovators

Winners of the RAIN Challenge will receive up to $50,000 to scale their impactful projects, aimed at delivering significant community benefits. Selected projects will also benefit from tailored mentoring, monitoring, evaluation, and learning initiatives, alongside communications and leadership support. Additionally, participants will gain access to a broad network of potential investors and partners through the GRP.

Eligibility Criteria for the RAIN Challenge

To qualify for the RAIN Challenge, East African Agricultural Innovators applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Present a nature-positive solution or business model that enhances resilience in the most affected communities in East Africa.
  • Demonstrate a potentially profitable revenue model.
  • Be based in East Africa (Burundi, Ethiopia, Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania, or Uganda).
  • Exhibit proven conservation and business experience within the team.
  • Integrate considerations for gender, equity, human rights, and biodiversity.
  • Ensure the solution does no harm to communities or ecosystems.
