This is a full-time contract Youth Specialist opportunity based in Mount Isa. It will run through the end of September 2025, and there is potential for extension. In this role, you will work closely with young people in the youth justice system. Since these individuals have bail conditions that must be met, they require dedicated support to navigate this process. As such, you will be part of our Intensive Bail Initiative team. In this capacity, you will report directly to the Team Leader. Moreover, you will collaborate with a passionate group that is focused on creating positive change.

The Youth Specialist You Will Make a Difference By:

  • Providing Support: Engage with young people involved in the youth justice system through intensive casework, follow-up, and referrals to specialized services.
  • Culturally Responsive Service: Embed Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives into the design, delivery, and evaluation of your programs and services, ensuring they resonate with the communities you serve.
  • Client-Centered Case Management: Offer collaborative and coordinated case management support tailored to each young person’s unique needs, fostering their self-reliance and independence.
  • Quality Service Delivery: Ensure that the services provided are of the highest quality, monitoring and evaluating program outcomes to continuously improve.

  • Youth Work and Case Management Skills: Proven experience in relevant roles that highlight your ability to engage and support youth effectively.
  • Understanding of Trauma: A deep understanding of complex intergenerational trauma and its impacts on young people.
  • Strong Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills are essential for building rapport and conveying important information.
  • Knowledge of Child Protection: An understanding of child protection concerns, along with a commitment to responding safely and effectively.
  • Time Management Skills: The ability to manage and plan your workload efficiently, ensuring all responsibilities are met.
